Remuneration:

Starting salary $68,000 plus 12.5% benefits; 4% annual raise

 

About the CASCADES project:

CASCADES is a multi-year capacity-building initiative to address healthcare’s contribution to the climate crisis. The project is funded for a five-year term by Environment and Climate Change Canada and run from the University of Toronto (Fiona Miller and Nicole Simms, Centre for Sustainable Health Systems) in collaboration with Dalhousie University (Gillian Ritcey and Sean Christie, Healthy Populations Institute), the University of British Columbia (Andrea MacNeill, Planetary Healthcare Lab) and the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care (Linda Varangu).

CASCADES will leverage, support and enhance capacity for sustainable healthcare across Canada, by (1) Delivering professional development training programs, resources, and events that celebrate and expand knowledge, skills and networks, and (2) Providing support to efforts to test and spread sustainable innovations in service delivery and system design.

 Four regional coordinators will support CASCADES’ efforts to test and spread sustainable innovations, based in: Western Canada (University of British Columbia), Central Canada (University of Toronto), Eastern Canada (Dalhousie University) and Quebec (Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care).

Presentation of La Planète s’invite en santé / Quebec Coalition for Sustainable Healthcare:

La Planète s’invite en santé (LPSS) is a Québec-based non-profit organization which mobilizes healthcare and social services professionals and students in addressing environmental issues impacting health. LPSS collaborates with organizations across Québec for the creation of a Québec Coalition for Sustainable Healthcare. LPSS is creating a new “Sustainable Healthcare Network” committee to stimulate exchanges and collaboration between organizations and professionals in healthcare and social services in Québec, for the improvement of the healthcare network in Québec through eco-friendly and carbon-neutral practices. 

Nature of the position:

The incumbent implements the CASCADES project in Quebec, and acts as the coordinator of the "Sustainable Healthcare Network” committee of La Planète s’invite en santé/Quebec Coalition for Sustainable Healthcare. The incumbent will be supervised by the CASCADES leadership and collaborate closely with the general coordinator of La Planète s’invite en santé/Quebec Coalition for Sustainable Healthcare.

 

Responsibilities:

Tasks of the Coordinator include the following, under the supervision of the CASCADES leadership and with the support of general coordinator of La Planète s’invite en santé/Quebec Coalition for Sustainable Healthcare:

 

Shared responsibilities for CASCADES and La Planète s’invite en santé/Quebec Coalition for Sustainable Healthcare:

  • Build and strengthen relationships with stakeholders and partners (both individuals and organizations) of strategic interest both regionally and nationally; they

    • Help to convene working groups, such as the “Sustainable Healthcare Network” committee for health and social services workers, students and organizations across Québec, in relevant issue areas (by region, sector, issue): e.g., coordinate meetings, maintain terms of reference, minutes and agendas; support intelligence gathering activities;

    • Identify and support the pursuit of communications, outreach and event opportunities in Québec (with the support of the CASCADES Events and Communications Coordinator).

  • Maintain a record and track sustainable healthcare projects/initiatives undertaken across the healthcare system in Quebec.

 

Dedicated responsibilities:

For CASCADES - to build capacity for sustainable healthcare in Quebec and support national spread

Within the CASCADES team, Regional Leads take primary responsibility to:

  • Identify and catalyze sustainable healthcare innovations in the region; they

    • Help to coordinate innovation teams: e.g., arrange meetings, maintain terms of reference/project charter, minutes and agendas; support information gathering activities

    • Assist with innovation test efforts: e.g., team building, innovation clarification, innovation implementation, innovation measurement/evaluation, coordination and engagement with external stakeholders

    • Activate CASCADES support options for innovations, as and where relevant: e.g., access to training programs/ knowledge translation materials; access to professional services such as carbon accounting, project management, expert facilitation, part time research assistance

    • Assist with preparation for and learning from expert review

    • Ensure the development of final reports (CASCADES playbooks)

  • Work with other CASCADES Regional Leads on the national spread of sustainable healthcare innovations; they

    • Help to design and coordinate annual competitions (with the support of the CASCADES Events and Communications Coordinator)

    • Share knowledge and networks across regions

    • Coordinate national spread initiatives: e.g., team building, innovation clarification, innovation implementation, innovation measurement/evaluation, coordination and engagement with external stakeholders

    • Ensure the development of final reports (CASCADES playbooks)

  • Support project reporting requirements, working with the CASCADES Project Coordinator (e.g., provide updates on activities, financial forecasts and expenditures as required to meet reporting obligations; support data collection and reporting for key performance indicators).

 

For La Planète s’invite en santé/ Quebec Coalition for Sustainable Healthcare:

  • Establish and implement an action plan for the “Sustainable Healthcare Network” committee, based on the mission and advocacy agenda of the Québec Coalition for Sustainable Healthcare.

  • Solicit input and suggestions from organizations and individuals participating in the committee to guide goals and actions.

  • Maintain a register of committee members (participants);

  • Facilitate communication and resource sharing among committee participants, e.g. by moderating a mailing list;

  • Liaise with external and internal resources in communications, public relations, finances, etc. as needed to ensure optimal functioning of the committee;

  • Propose and support projects aimed at developing the committee towards its objectives;

  • Undertake any other task necessary for the adequate operations of the committee, as requested by the CASCADES project management, the coordinator of the Quebec Coalition for Sustainable Healthcare, or any committee participant;

 

Desired skills:

Required:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant social science or health discipline and a minimum of three years experience, or a relevant combination of education and experience.

  • Bilingual – French and English

Preferred:

  • Expertise and/or experience in research coordination and/or project management in Quebec’s health network and/or the Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services;

  • Knowledge and understanding of the healthcare sector in Québec and of current challenges in the field;

  • Expertise and/or experience in environmental sustainability, preferably applied to health or healthcare settings.

 Capacity to execute the following core functions:

  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance.

  • Fostering stakeholder engagement and maintaining relationships with project partners.

  • Reviewing and assessing requirements needed to meet project timelines.

  • Researching, analyzing and recommending solutions to project challenges.

  • Strategic planning and overseeing the implementation of an evaluation framework for projects.

  • Implementing and executing qualitative and/or quantitative research methods for project evaluation, for example by designing surveys, interviews or data extraction forms.

  • Drafting documents for knowledge translation purposes.

  • Coordinating meeting schedules, agendas, materials, action and follow-up items.

  • Making minor purchases.
