Topic: Ecological Economics, Health Economics and the Challenge of Creating a Climate Positive Health System

Speaker: Martin Hensher is the Henry Baldwin Professorial Research Fellow in Health Systems Sustainability at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research, University of Tasmania. 

Abstract: Interest in “sustainable health care” is growing fast around the world.  Yet so too is disruption – climate, ecological, geopolitical, economic and societal disruptions that cannot fail to put pressure on health systems.  This presentation will apply insights from ecological economics to health systems, policy and health economics.  It will consider: how can climate change and ecological impacts be embedded in economic evaluation and analysis for health; what differing visions of a post-growth economy might mean for health care; and how economic analysis in health care needs to be transformed to make a positive contribution as health systems transition into this future.
