On Tuesday January 14, Emerging Leaders for Environmental Sustainability in Healthcare (ELESH) held the first design and development workshop as part of the Greening Healthcare Case Challenge. The case challenge has brought together over 60 students from across the three University of Toronto campuses to form 16 interdisciplinary teams and propose solutions towards greener and more environmentally sustainable health care.
At the first workshop current ELESH President Anna Cooper Reed and ELESH Event Chair Victoria Haldane introduced the case and spoke to the need for environmental sustainability in healthcare. Participants were then given the opportunity to work with mentors from a range of health professions and disciplines to workshop ideas for their solutions. ELESH mentorship included representation from nursing, medicine, pharmacy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, public health, social work, geography and more. At the next workshop participants will have the chance to further refine their ideas and take part in mock pitches with panels of mentors in preparation for the final showcase.
At the Greening Healthcare Case Challenge Showcase on February 7 2020, teams will present their ideas to an audience and panel of esteemed judges for a chance to win cash prizes. The showcase is open to all and will be held Friday February 7, 2020 at 630pm, Room 610, 155 College St. Register to attend at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/87981052697.
